UFC Fight Night 58: CB Dollaway looking to take care of Lyoto Machida with a first-round knockout

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) could produce the next middleweight title contender at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 58 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, which takes place at Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Dec. 20, 2014.

No, not Lyoto Machida.

I'm referring to CB Dollaway, who is 4-1 over his last five fights and looking to punch his ticket to a 185-pound title shot in 2015. And "The Doberman" figures the best way to accomplish that mission is by knocking out "The Dragon" early in their main event showdown.

From his conversation with Submission Radio:

"Hopefully with a first round knockout. Walk in and take care of business early. If you look at the Chris Weidman fight it did give him a lot of trouble when Chris was able to take him down, get on top. Also you know my boxing is getting pretty good. I've been spending a lot of time with my boxing coach and I feel confident if I catch Lyoto with a punch I can put him to sleep. You know my punching power is there with both hands. Obviously he's not easy to hit, but we've been working on a lot of things, a lot of good head movement to get out of the way and avoid his counter strikes and land some strikes of my own. And really the key is to be able to just mix everything up."

Easier said than done.

Dollaway (15-5) is 4-1 since his atrocious 2011 fight campaign, scoring consecutive wins over Cezar Ferreira and Francis Carmont, the latter of which was good enough to sneak him into the division top 10. Where "The Doberman" goes from there, largely depends on how well he performs against the Brazilian.

Machida (21-5) was able to win back-to-back fights following his drop to 185 pounds, good enough for a crack at division kingpin Chris Weidman. After a grueling and spirited back-and-forth affair at UFC 175 last July, "The Dragon" was sent to the back of the line by way of unanimous decision.

Can Dollaway pull off the upset?
