Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has booked an electric lightweight co-main event for its upcoming UFC Fight Night 61: "Evans vs. Teixeira" mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, scheduled for Feb. 22, 2015 inside Gigantinho Gymnasium in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
Edson Barboza vs. Michael Johnson.
Barboza (15-2) is 5-1 over the last two years and re-entered the 155-pound title chase with a convincing unanimous decision win over Strikeforce import Bobby Green just last month in Austin, Texas. The 28-year-old striker has 10 knockout/technical knockout finishes in 15 total wins.
But his opponent is a gamer.
Johnson (15-8) brushed off a rough patch from late 2012-early 2013 by stringing together three straight wins. In addition, "The Menace" -- who was a close runner up in The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 12 Finale -- became the first fighter in over seven years to finish the venerable Gleison Tibau by way of strikes.
Fun fight.
UFC Fight Night 61: "Evans vs. Teixeira" will be headlined by a do-or-die light heavyweight contender showdown pitting Rashad Evans against hometown favorite Glover Teixeira, with the loser getting sent to the bottom of the 205-pound pecking order.
