Winning is certainly paramount in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), but fans and pundits alike almost immediately begin contemplating what could be next for those who take home victories inside the Octagon.
For Lyoto Machida, the answer of "what's next?" is seemingly clear after his 62 second obliteration of CB Dollaway last night (Dec. 20, 2014) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 58 (highlights here).
Just moments after adding yet another highlight reel finish to his resume, MMA fans and media were calling for the former light heavyweight champion to take on former Strikeforce middleweight champion and current No. 5 ranked contender Luke Rockhold.
Rockhold has shrugged off his awful UFC debut, one that saw him get knocked out by current No. 1 middleweight contender Vitor Belfort, by finishing three straight opponents in Costa Philippou, Tim Boetsch, and Michael Bisping.
Considering the pseudo-middleweight tournament at UFC 184 -- with Chris Weidman defending his title against Vitor Belfort and top contenders Jacare Souza and Yoel Romero squaring off -- Rockhold was watching Machida intently last evening, knowing that if "The Dragon" defeated Dollaway, he would likely be his next foe.
Once Machida finished off the job, Rockhold made his claim, and Dana White approved.
@lyotomachidafw looked good. I'm ready when you are @danawhite

Will UFC be able to book the fight in time for UFC 184 to add to the middleweight madness? Or will the two top contenders share the spotlight in a UFC Fight Night main event? Either way, the middleweight division is looking as exciting as it has ever been.
