First he wasn't interested, then he liked the fight, now he's willing to get it on.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight titleholder Rashad Evans has verbally agreed to throw hands opposite ex-division No. 1 contender Glover Teixeira, at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 61 event on Feb. 22, 2015 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Combate brought word of the pairing earlier today.
Evans (19-3-1) hasn't been seen since a first-round shellacking over Chael Sonnen back in late 2013, thanks to a devastating knee injury that resulted in surgery, as well as a considerable layoff. Prior to arresting the "American Gangster" at UFC 167, "Suga" worked his way past Dan Henderson at UFC 161.
Another title fight is not out of the question.
But that would require a win over Teixeira (22-4), who like Evans, came up on the wrong end of a five-round decision to Jon Jones. Also like "Suga," the Brazilian lost his follow-up fight when he was dumped and humped for three rounds against Phil Davis at UFC 179.
Dangerous fight for both contenders ... who ya' got?
In addition to Evans vs. Teixeira, UFC Fight Night 61 is expected to feature Rustam Khabilov in a lightweight battle opposite Adriano Martins, while Cezar Ferreira tries to get his groove back against Sam Alvey in a middleweight action.
The event will likely air on FOX Sports 1 and Fight Pass.
