Heat of the moment vs. malicious intent.
That's the difference between Claudia Gadelha and Paul Daley, according to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, who addressed the mixed martial arts (MMA) media in the wake of the UFC on FOX 13 event last Saturday night (Dec. 13, 2014) in Phoenix, Arizona (results here).
From the "Dos Santos vs. Miocic" post-fight press conference (watch it):
"People were going crazy on me about that one... Of course, everybody goes back to Daley. The difference is this: When Daley did it to Koscheck, I was in there. I went up to Daley... He didn't care. He didn't give a shit. He looked right at me and said he didn't care. As soon as [Gadelha] did it to her, she reached her hand out and she apologized to her. Those two had a war; they're in the heat of the battle. [Jedrzejczyk] landed a kick, the bell rang and then [Gadelha] hit her with a punch. And then she completely apologized for doing it."
No hard feelings!
Daley has been campaigning for another shot under the ZUFFA banner after sucker-punching Josh Koscheck at UFC 113 back in 2010. White told him to go pound sand, but is not expected to do likewise against Gadelha, who tagged Joanna Jędrzejczyk after the bell during the UFC on FOX 13 prelims (recap).
Anyone have a problem with that?
