When the UFC on Fox 13: Dos Santos vs. Miocic broadcast opened tonight (Sat., Dec. 13, 2014) from the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, a clip was played showing Nate Diaz walking out of a pre-fight interview, this after he missed weight yesterday, and has been openly critical of both the UFC's new deal with Reebok for fighter uniforms and the company signing former WWE star CM Punk.
As my colleague Jesse Holland put it, "wow, UFC fights dirty."
Still, they promoted his co-main event match-up against Rafael dos Anjos and it went off without a hitch later in the evening.
Dos Anjos was super aggressive right from the outset, his primary attack leg kicks. They were effective too, with Diaz visibly limping after just three minutes inside the cage. The Stockton slugger finally took the fight to the floor but even there he was smothered and covering up to avoid punches.
The Brazilian continued his attack on Diaz's lower limbs into the second round. It was brutal by this point. Even with that success, Dos Anjos took his opponent down and busted him open with a hard elbow.
It was a brutal destruction.
To punctuate his dominance in the second round as well, Dos Anjos landed a head kick that scored a knockdown. It wouldn't have been crazy to think of throwing in the towel at this point considering Diaz's leg was already showing bruising and he could hardly stand properly.
Round three offered more of the same, save for Diaz going full Stockton and open hand slapping Dos Anjos in the face. He even backhanded him!
Still, he got destroyed for 15 minutes and lost a decision. The scores: 30-26, 30-26, and 30-27, all in favor of "RDA."
