Alistair Overeem made the bold prediction that he would knock Stefan Struve out within the first 30 seconds of their heavyweight fight at tonight's (Sat., Dec. 13, 2014) UFC on Fox 13: Dos Santos vs. Miocic event in Phoenix, Arizona.
He didn't.
Actually, he didn't even throw a punch in the first 30 seconds and when he did engage, it was to initiate a clinch. His first strike was a knee to the body. If anything, it seemed clear he was either thrown off by Struve's considerable height advantage, or he was simply accounting for it while drawing up an in-cage game plan.
Overeem scored a takedown and worked big punches from top. A lot of big punches.
Eventually, "Reem's" relentless attack paid off. A power punch made its way through Struve's long arms, and then another, and then another. It wasn't long before his eyes rolled up and he was done.
Is Overeem back?
