Carla Esparza made history last night (Fri., Dec. 12, 2014) when she submitted Rose Namajunas in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 20 Finale at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The win, coming by way of rear-naked choke in the third round, made Esparza the first ever women's strawweight UFC champion. She is also the next Ultimate Fighter, not that that distinction holds any value in 2014 and beyond. Still, she proved she was the far superior fighter last night despite the considerable hype surrounding Namajunas, who actually walked into the cage the favorite. She failed to do so, of course, but don't be surprised if she's back and chasing another shot at Esparza's new crown.
