Rashad Evans bails on proposed Alexander Gustafsson fight to extend kneehab

USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was planning to deliver a light heavyweight showdown pitting Alexander Gustafsson against Rashad Evans this January in Stockholm, Sweden, but it appears that "Suga" is no longer interested in participating.

Not because he doesn't want to face "The Mauler" (he does), but rather because he's not 100-percent confident in his surgically-repaired knee when it comes to the "explosiveness" required to fight the towering Swede, according to a report from UFC Tonight.

That means Evans, who ruptured his ACL back in February, won't see the inside of the Octagon until at least March.

Gustafsson, meanwhile, is still planning to compete in his native land after losing out on a 205-pound title shot (because of this), and the promotion continues to search for a suitable light heavyweight opponent. Also rumored for the Stockholm event is a welterweight bangfest pitting Matt Brown against Tarec Saffiedine.

So, any potential candidates for "The Mauler" come to mind?
