Roy Jones Jr.: It's a pity UFC won't allow Anderson Silva to fulfill his dream of boxing me

Just let the man box!

USA TODAY Sports

While Roy Jones Jr. may have a good relationship with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White and the mixed martial arts (MMA) company as a whole, the former boxing champion doesn't agree everything they do.

Specifically, prohibiting former middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, from going toe-to-toe against a boxer as "great" as himself in an all-out boxing match.

As Roy told MMA Fight Corner (via MMA Fighting), the fact that UFC won't allow "The Spider" from fulfilling his dream is a "pity."

"The UFC won't allow him to fulfill his dream and get in the ring and enjoy a night of sharing the ring with the great Roy Jones. Jr. It's such a pity. It's such a shame because it's a night that I'm sure people from both worlds would really admire, and would love to see, and would get a lot from because of two legends in the ring at once. Although it's boxing, we could share the ring together because Anderson can box. He's a professional fighter too, and he's an entertainer just as myself. I feel really solid that [the UFC] won't allow him to do that. But as a fighter, I think he's a phenomenal fighter and I think he's probably going to be one of the best UFC fighters to ever touch the planet."

Sure, the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion has eased up and allowed some if its fighters to compete in jiu-jitsu tournaments such as Metamoris, as is the case with Rory MacDonald. And events such as Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye -- as they allowed Josh Barnett to do.

But letting "The Spider" box against Jones. Jr, was something they simply couldn't green light.

And now that Anderson has signed on for 15 more fights with UFC -- starting with Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan., 31, 2015 -- the chance of seeing he and Jones box once and for all, has likely vanished forever.
