Dylan Fussell stops Baz Mohammad Mubariz in 'Full Metal Dojo 3' main event

JP Mestanza

The main event of Full Metal Dojo (FMD) 3 saw American Dylan Fussell take on Afghanistan's Baz Mohammad Mubariz and with a healthy contingent of fight fans from both nations in the building, it made for an intense atmosphere at the Live House Studio in Bangkok.

Mubariz came out strongly and looked set to dominate the fight with a wrestling based gameplan as he bullrushed Fussell and repeatedly took him down in the early exchanges, but a straight left hand from the American stunned him and changed the complexion of the entire fight.

From the moment Fussell landed that strike from the southpaw stance the Afghan was in desperation mode and despite occasionally swinging for the fences, he was taking a beating from an opponent able to methodically take advantage of the gaping holes in his stand-up game.

At the end of the second round Mubariz looked exhausted and was barely able to get up off his stool, causing referee Olivier Coste to wave off the fight and hand Fussell a win which moves his record up to 3-1 while the Afghan drops to 4-3.

The co main event was an all-Thai affair which saw Chatmongkhon Simma (3-2) score his third straight FMD win after landing an elbow which sliced open the face of Siwa Konthieng (2-2), giving the doctor no option but to call off the fight.

On a good night for Tiger Muay Thai there was also a win for American Emilio Urrutia (4-0) as Pakistan's Uloomi Karim Shaheen (2-3) spent three rounds frantically backpedaling while Alex Schild (2-0) made short work of one-time ONE FC fighter Susovan Ghosh (1-2).

The fight of the night saw Thai prospect Pongsiri Mitsatit (3-0) beat Payoongsak Singchalad by unanimous decision despite getting repeatedly taken down with the ONE FC scoring, which prizes aggression and damage done, definitely working in the favor of the Team Quest Thailand strawweight.

With 13 fights on the card and a healthy crowd consisting of a mixture of Thais and expats, FMD's first ever show in Bangkok was a successful one and the promotion will be back in February with an event that will feature a light heavyweight fight between promoter Jon Nutt and fellow American Musa Conteh.
