Undefeated (10-0, 5-0 UFC) Welterweight contender, Kelvin Gastelum, proved he was the real deal after forcing longtime veteran Jake Ellenberger to tap in the very first round (video) of this past weekend's (Sat. Nov. 15, 2014) UFC 180 pay-per-view (PPV) event in Mexico City, Mexico.
So you knew it was only logical that the level of competition would continue to ratchet up for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 winner.
And it did.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today announced (via FOX Sports) that Gastelum has been booked to sling leather against former Strikeforce welterweight title contender, Tyron Woodley, in the co-main event of UFC 183, which is set to pop off on Jan. 31, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Woodley was last seen knocking off Dong Hyun Kim's block at UFC Fight Night 48 a few months back, getting him back on the winning track after losing a No. 1 contender match to Rory MacDonald at UFC 174.
Since then, not much has been seen or heard from "T-Wood" other than UFC president Dana white revealing that he declined a showdown against Hector Lombard.
The good news, Woodley and Gastelum don't fight for the same mixed martial arts (MMA) camp, so 'T-Wood" was quick to accept this intriguing 170-pound scrap against one of the fastest rising contenders in the division.
UFC 183 features a "super" main event between former Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, taking on former Welterweight title challenger, Nick Diaz, in a 185-pound showdown. Also on the card, Miesha Tate will take on Sara McMann in women's Bantamweight action.
