The co-main event of tonight's (Sat., Nov. 15, 2014) UFC 180: "Werdum vs. Hunt" pay-per-view (PPV) from Mexico City Arena in Mexico City, Mexico featured Kelvin Gastelum taking a step up in competition to square off against welterweight "Juggernaut," Jake Ellenberger.
He certainly proved he was never out of his element.
Gastelum's power punching matched Ellenberger's zest for loaded up shots from distance. When he found himself in a bit of trouble, he quickly adjusted before scoring a takedown to regain control. Ellenberger reversed positioning and attempted a suplex at one point, but Gastelum fought him off in lightning quick fashion.
Just as soon as he spun around and used a few hard punches to open Ellenberger up, his hooks were in, his arms were sunk deep into Jake's neck, and he was winning the fight with a rear-naked choke.
The win gives him his fourth in a row in the 170-pound division, good for second among all active fighters.
Time for another step up the ladder.
