Two of the top three female Bantamweight fighters under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner, Miesha Tate (No. 2) and Sara McMann (No. 3), will collide in a pivotal divisional match up planned for UFC 183, which is set for MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Jan. 31, 2015.
"UFC Tonight" revealed the 135-pound showdown on its latest FOX Sports 1 broadcast.
Tate is in the midst of a two-fight win streak, most recently outpointing Rin Nakai on all three judges scorecards at UFC Fight Night 52 1.5 months ago. Prior to the victory, "Cupcake" topped Liz Carmouche via unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 11 in April 2014.
The former title challenger, who was stopped by division champion Ronda Rousey via armbar (again) at UFC 168 in Dec. 2013, lobbied for a bout against Bethe Correia (read more here). UFC matchmakers, obviously, had other plans.
McMann, who feels she will be Rousey's "hardest opponent" inside the Octagon (despite a "controversial" loss), most recently took a split decision over unheralded Lauren Murphy in her most recent appearance at UFC Fight Night 47 back in Aug. 2014. The former Olympic silver medal-winning wrestler (2004) has just one loss on her professional mixed martial arts (MMA) record since her transition to the sport in 2011.
UFC 183 features a "super" main event between former Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, taking on former Welterweight title challenger, Nick Diaz, in a 185-pound showdown. To check out the latest UFC 183: "Silva vs. Diaz" fight card and rumors click here.
