UFC Fight Night 56 injuries and medical suspensions: Shogun sits for 60

Now that the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared, it's time to find out who's worse for the wear following the carnage at UFC Fight Night 56 this past weekend in Brazil.

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) sent 20 mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters into battle last weekend (Sat., Nov. 8, 2014) inside Ginasio Municipal Tancredo Neves in Uberlandia, Brazil, and not a single one of them escaped a post-fight medical suspension.

The Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) means business.

Chief among them is former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua, who will have 60 days to think about what went wrong in his stunning knockout loss to Ovince St. Preux in the FOX Sports 1 main event (replay). Fortunately for "Shogun," that's only a third of what Colby Covington and Warlley Alves received for their respective performances.

Here is the full list of UFC Fight Night 56 injuries and medical suspensions, courtesy of MMA Fighting:

Colby Covington: Suspended 180 days pending clearance of foot
Wagner Silva: Suspended 30 days; 21 days no contact
Tim Gorman: Suspended 45 days; 30 days no contact
Thomas Almeida: Suspended 60 days; 45 days no contact

Warlley Alves: Suspended 180 days pending clearance of right rib
Ovince St. Preux: Suspended 14 days; 7 days no contact
Mauricio Rua: Suspended 60 days; 45 days no contact

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
