Rory MacDonald scored a third round (technical) knockout victory over Tarec Saffiedine in the main event of last night's (Sat., Oct. 4, 2014) UFC Fight Night 54: "MacDonald vs. Saffiedine" showcase from the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Fox Sports 1. The game was simple: "Ares" picked his shots, methodically breaking his opponent down until he found his opening. When he did, he made it count, coming over the top with a hard right that clipped the temple and following up with a vicious left hook. The finish was clean, and it was his first in over two years. It also gave him three wins in a row and a legitimate case for a welterweight title shot against the winner of the Robbie Lawler vs. Johny Hendricks fight at UFC 181. With whispers of the UFC returning to Montreal next year, perhaps the chips are falling exactly as they need to. Either way, this was an impressive win at just the right time.
