Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Lauzon booked for UFC 180 with Norman Parke hurt

Andrew Richardson-USA TODAY Spor

Fight of the Night? How about Fight of the Century?

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has booked Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Lauzon for the upcoming UFC 180: "Velasquez vs. Werdum" pay-per-view (PPV) fight card, which takes place on Nov. 15, 2014, inside Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.

"The Nightmare" (25-7) was originally penciled in to throw down opposite Norman Parke; however, "Stormin'" was sidelined due to an MCL injury and forced to withdraw. In a somewhat surprising move, featherweight sensation Conor McGregor volunteered to step in and do work, but it appears the promotion has other plans for "Notorious."

See what they are right here.

Lauzon (24-9) is coming off a technical knockout win over Michael Chiesa at the UFC Fight Night 50 event last month on FOX Sports 1. While the cut that led to "Maverick's" downfall (see it) was the source of some contentious post-fight chatter, that rivalry has been put to bed.

For now.

Headlined by a heavyweight title fight featuring Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum, UFC 180 will also produce a 145-pound match up between Denis Bermudez vs. Ricardo Lamas, while Kelvin Gastelum fights Jake Ellenberger in welterweight action.
