Video: Emotional Miesha Tate on 'The Doctors' recounts CPR tactic that saved Bryan Caraway's mom from dying in Mexico

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight contender Bryan Caraway is the luckiest guy in the world.

"Kid Lightning" is the boyfriend of former Strikeforce women's 135-pound champion Miesha Tate, one of the top female fighters in the world. That's a spot plenty of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans would love to have. But "Cupcake" is more than just good looks and UFC wins.

She's also a bona fide superhero.

Tate was recently on vacation in Mexico with Caraway and his parents, when his mom had a severe asthma attack -- on a boat at sea -- and turned purple. With her throat completely swollen shut, her inhaler was of no use and traditional CPR failed to have any effect. Tate made a split-second decision to first ingest the inhaler spray, then perform CPR in an attempt to force the medicine into her passageway.

It worked, and Mrs. Lightning was brought back from the brink of death.

More on that frightening near-tragedy below, as told by both Tate and Caraway (and his mom), courtesy of daytime television's The Doctors.

Scary stuff.

Caraway will fight Raphael Assuncao at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 54 event this Saturday (Oct. 4, 2014) on FOX Sports 1 (more on that here), while Tate is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Rin Nakai at UFC Fight Night 52 last month in Japan.
