UFC rankings updated after UFC 179: Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes stand fast, Phil Davis sends Glover Teixeira packing

Jose Aldo's impressive win -- which marked his 18th in a row including nine title defenses -- still wasn't good enough to overtake Jon Jones as the pound-for-pound best.

The official Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rankings have been updated following the UFC 179: "Aldo vs. Mendes 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event, which took place last Sat. night (Oct. 25, 2014) inside Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Jose Aldo solidified his spot atop the featherweight mountain after defeating Chad Mendes for the second time in a back-and-forth title fight for the ages (video) which saw "Junior" go home with a unanimous decision victory in the main event of the evening.

In the co-headlining act, Phil Davis managed to outpoint Glover Teixeira, earning him a unanimous decision, as well. The dominant performance (highlights) and subsequent victory was good enough to jump "Mr. Wonderful" up one spot to No. 5 on the light heavyweight list.

The loss, meanwhile, sent Glover tumbling down two pegs to No. 6.
