UFC 179: "Aldo vs. Mendes 2" from Ginásio do Maracanãzinho in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has officially wrapped, which means it's time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four of the 22 fighters on the card, and it's probably no surprise who's heading home with a second sack of simoleons.
This time around, Fabio Maldonado and Gilbert Burns earned "Performance of the Night" bonuses for their stoppage victories over Hans Stringer (knockout) and Christos Giagos (submission), respectively.
The "Fight of the Night" was awarded to the thrilling Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes featherweight championship main event that saw the former retain his title with a gritty performance, showing the resilience of a champion, against a more than worthy challenger.
Here are the special UFC 179 bonuses:
Performance of the Night -- Fabio Maldonado
Performance of the Night -- Gilbert Burns
Fight of the Night -- Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes
Again, each fighter received $50,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as that information becomes available.
