UFC 179 results: Beneil Dariush wins decision over Carlos Diego Ferreira

This is a fight that happened, and we're all better off that it's over.

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Carlos Diego Ferreira brought an 11-fight win streak, including two bonus earning stoppages in his pair of Octagon bouts, into his showdown against Iranian finishing machine Beneil Dariush in the main card kickoff of tonight's (Oct. 25, 2014) UFC 179: "Aldo vs. Mendes 2" pay-per-view (PPV) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

For as often as these two finished everyone else, they had a hell of a time getting anywhere near doing the same to each other.

And so long to that streak.

Dariush earned points in the first round with a more measured striking game and a late takedown, even if he was fending off submission attempts from his Brazilian foe. The second round played out largely the same, with Ferreira needing to push the action with an aggressive attack in the final frame.

Sure enough, he opened the third rushing in with heavy blows that were doing obvious damage. Dariush was forced to initiate a clinch to avoid taking shots and when that failed, he went back to the takedown.

It was there, too.

And Ferreira was powerless on the bottom, as Dariush completely controlled the fight the rest of the way. It wasn't exciting -- the fans in Brazil mustered enough energy to boo at various points as the bout drew to a close -- but it was effective.

Judges scorecards: 30-27 across the board, all in favor of Dariush.
