Despite the fact that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has flown top featherweight contender Conor McGregor to Brazil, where he is expected to have a cageside seat for the Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes title fight at UFC 179, a new report from MMA Junkie has the feisty Irishman fighting Dennis Siver on Jan. 18, 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts.
That's a Sunday ... on FOX Sports 1.
That would mean "Notorious" is not the division No. 1 contender, despite what UFC President Dana White said, which is surely good news for the winner of Cub Swanson vs. Frankie Edgar, a pair of 145-pound title chasers who go to war at UFC Fight Night 57 next month in Austin, Texas.
"Notorious" said he was open to non-title fights ... I guess he was serious.
McGregor (16-2) is fresh off a first-round shellacking over Dustin Poirier last month in Las Vegas, Nevada, in what was his fourth straight win -- and third finish -- since joining Team ZUFFA in 2013. Siver (22-9), meanwhile, recently took a unanimous decision win over Charles Rosa in Sweden after serving a nine-month drug suspension.
How about it, fight fans, this bout doing anything for you?
