So, how does Stipe Miocic vs. the winner of Cain Velasqez vs. Fabricio Werdum sound?
Sounds great to No. 5-ranked Miocic, who told MMA Fighting that beating No. 2-ranked Junior dos Santos -- a former heavyweight champion -- in the main event of UFC on FOX 13 on Dec. 13, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona, should result in a crack at the 265-pound crown.
His words:
"Junior is ranked second. That would move me up to be right behind Werdum, so I think whatever happens after that fight, I should get a shot. He's fought for the title plenty of times. He's been champion. He's been [sidelined] for a while, but definitely once I beat him, I think I should get that chance."
The no-longer-injured "Cigano" is 10-2 inside the Octagon and has only lost to Velasquez.
Miocic, on the other hand, has just one defeat across 13 professional fights. Unfortunately, it sticks out like a sore thumb, having been blasted by Stefan Struve back in late 2012. The gritty Ohioan bounced back with three straight wins, but will undoubtedly be facing the biggest test of his young career.
Who ya' got?
