He tapped! Glover Teixeira vs. Phil Davis free fight videos preview UFC 179 PPV co-main event

Top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender, Phil Davis, probably doesn't get the respect he deserves from the mixed martial arts (MMA) community. Part of that has to do with his inability to score a knockout in 11 Octagon appearances.

The other part? Well, he's been known to act "goofy."

But that doesn't mean "Mr. Wonderful" (12-2) isn't talented. You don't get to beat guys like Lyoto Machida, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Brian Stann by being some bum with good takedowns. Davis has a formidable ground game and was able to take the division's top contender, Alexander Gustafsson, and tap him out in the first round at UFC 112.

But he's going to have his work cut out for him if he hopes to replicate that performance in the UFC 179 co-main event, where he faces former division No. 1 contender Glover Teixeira (22-3) this Sat. night (Oct. 25, 2014) inside Maracanãzinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Brazilian also knows a thing or two about submissions.

In addition, he has become adept at dropping bombs when they count. And as Ryan Bader found out back in September, Teixeira is dangerous even when he's hurt, a lesson painfully not learned until "Darth" was already slumped to the floor, looking up at the lights.
