After an abysmal outing at 170 pounds, longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Dan Miller will return the middleweight division against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Brazil" standout Daniel Sarafian at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 58 event on FOX Sports 1, which takes place at Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Dec. 20, 2014.
UFC announced the pairing on Thursday.
Miller (14-7) hasn't been seen since a technical knockout loss to Jordan Mein way back at UFC 158 in early 2013. It was the first time in over 20 professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fights the gritty AMA product had been finished, which was attributed to his dramatic cut down to 170 pounds.
No more.
Not that it gets any easier at 185 pounds. Waiting to greet him is Sarafian (8-5), who presents a very dangerous threat after his own issues at welterweight, simply because a loss will likely send him packing. Despite showing early promise, the Brazilian is just 1-3 inside the UFC cage and coming off back-to-back losses.
Time to go for broke.
UFC Fight Night 58 will be headlined by a middleweight main event pitting former 185-pound title contender Lyoto Machida against streaking division stalwart CB Dollaway, while ex-bantamweight kingpin Renan Barao returns to action against the venerable Mitch Gagnon.
