The latest and greatest addition to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight roster finally has a fight, as Holly Holm draws The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 veteran Raquel Pennington for the upcoming UFC 181 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Dec. 6, 2014 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC announced the showdown on Thursday night.
Holm (7-0) hasn't been seen since a technical knockout win over Juliana Werner last April, a bout that left her with a busted wing (pic). "The Preacher's Daughter" -- one of the finest female boxers to ever compete in her weight class -- is expected to be atop a very short list of bantamweight title contenders.
But she first needs to win her debut fight.
That could be easier said than done against a gritty veteran like Pennington (4-4). While her mixed martial arts (MMA) record isn't exactly the stuff of legend, "Rocky" has an iron chin and the benefit of already competing twice inside the world-famous Octagon.
Should be a fun fight.
UFC 181 features a championship doubleheader in the main- and co-main events, with UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks making his first 170-pound title defense against the man he defeated to win it, Robbie Lawler, while UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis does the same -- almost 18 months removed from capturing 155-pound gold -- against Gilbert Melendez.
