UFC Quick Quote: Maybe Rick Story is a sacrificial lamb for Gunnar Nelson

USA TODAY Sports

"I was kind of surprised when I got the main event. And then I sat and thought about it and realized Gunnar is from over there. They are trying to see if he's ready for a step up in competition. I kind of felt like, maybe I'm the sacrificial lamb for Gunnar to catapult himself into the top 10."

Longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight veteran Rick Story -- one of two men to hold a win over current division kingpin Johny Hendricks -- admits to ESPN.com that he has been wondering if the promotion is sending him overseas to help catapult international grappling phenom Gunnar Nelson into the top 10 of their division. "Gunni" is perfect in four trips to the Octagon but has yet to defeat a "name" and therefore must settle for No. 12 (out of 15). "Horror," meanwhile, isn't even ranked, so perhaps that door swings both ways? We'll find out at UFC Fight Night 53 this Saturday (Oct. 4, 2014) in the Fight Pass main event from Stockholm, Sweden.
