Dana White reacts to Ben Henderson vs Josh Thomson: Judges scoring 'way off,' 'Smooth' just 'not a finisher'

New, comments

It was deja vu all over again for Dana White with Ben Henderson's predictable close call in the UFC on FOX 10 main event last night from United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

"The scoring was way off. At the end of the day … I don't know. It definitely wasn't that wide of a margin. If you had Henderson winning it wasn't by that wide of a margin. No [Ben Henderson did not do enough to warrant a title shot next]. It was a Ben Henderson fight. When Ben Henderson has the title or is trying to get back to the title, that's a Ben Henderson fight. We've seen that fight one million times. It's not about being more aggressive -- he's a talented fighter. He's just a grinder, not a finisher."

-- Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White was surprised, but not really, with the controversial scoring of the Ben Henderson vs. Josh Thomson main event last night (Sat., Jan. 25, 2014) from United Center in Chicago, Illinois. That's because once again his former 155-pound champion, "Smooth," did just enough to win a split decision, his third in his five most recent performances. White was more or less speechless, most likely because judging and him just don't get along -- look no further than his self-admitted "meltdown" after UFC 167 in Nov. 2013. But, again, it was Sal D'Amato struck again, submitting a lopsided scorecard (see it here) that turned more than just White's head. Nonetheless, Henderson moves on, while Thomson ponders possible mixed martial arts (MMA) retirement after a gut-wrenching loss. It's unclear who Henderson will fight next, but based on White's post-fight comments above, you can bet it won't be a third shot against Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. Indeed, it's a muddled 155-pound contender picture that will take some time to sort out as "Showtime" plans to return on Fourth of July weekend.
