Let's try this again.
Jake Ellenberger has been asked to fight Tarec Saffiedine at the upcoming UFC 172 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place inside Maryland's Baltimore Arena on April 26, 2014, in a bout that was originally scheduled to go down at UFC Fight Night 34 earlier this month in Singapore.
"The Juggernaut" shared news of the booking earlier today on his official Facebook page and the promotion later confirmed the pairing with an official announcement.
Ellenberger (29-7) was forced to leave "The Sponge" high and dry following an untimely injury (details), putting him on the shelf for more than six months. The hard-hitting welterweight -- last seen in a three-round stinker opposite Rory MacDonald on FOX -- was replaced by Hyun Gyu Lim.
Not that it mattered.
Saffiedine (15-3) was able to put "Ace" in his place earlier this month on the "Fight Pass" network, notching his fifth straight win and cracking the official top 10 rankings at number nine (Ellenberger is number five). A win in "Charm City" will undoubtedlty push him up the list and into title contention.
Who ya' got?
UFC 172 will feature the return of 205-pound champion Jon Jones, as he attempts to defend his light heavyweight strap against Glover Teixiera. "Bones" was last seen turning away Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165, while Teixeira kept his 29-fight win streak alive by defeating Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28.
No other bouts have been announced for the "Jones vs. Teixeira" event at this time, but you can expect them to start trickling in over the next few weeks.
Stay tuned.
