Glover Teixeira sent Ryan Bader back down the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight ladder when he finished the former Arizona State University wrestler in the first round with a stunning knockout at UFC Fight Night 28 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. That win earned Teixeira a title shot against the winner of Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 later this month.
However, the most notable injury is Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza's foot. Souza put the wood to Yushin Okami, finishing him in the first round by ground and pound. However, he wasn't able to celebrate the win in normal fashion, instead he limped away.
In his post-fight interview with John Anik, Souza told the crowd, "when I kicked him, I saw that I hurt him a bit so I kicked him more. It's hurt, and because it's hurt unfortunately I couldn't do my ‘jacare' walk for the crowd."
There is no word yet of the extent of his injury, but it would be a shame to hear that he's out for an extended period of time following such a dominant win. Souza and the rest of the competitors from Wednesday night's (Sept. 4, 2013) were handed down suspensions from the Brazilian Athletic Commission (CABMMA).
