Latest UFC rankings/MMA rankings (lightweight): Anthony Pettis boots Ben Henderson from top spot

Now that the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared in the wake of UFC 164, the SB Nation crew has tallied the votes and come up with the 10 best lightweight fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) today. Have a look.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) crowned a new lightweight champion last weekend (Aug. 31, 2013) when Anthony Pettis submitted Ben Henderson in their UFC 164 pay-per-view (PPV) main event title fight at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (replay here).

That makes "Showtime" the best 155-pounder on the planet.

While "Smooth" has been unseated from the top spot, he doesn't fall very far. The ex-champ is sitting pretty at number two, ahead of Gilbert Melendez and T.J. Grant, the latter of whom will receive the next crack at the crown at an event to be named.

As a result of the "Brew Town" shake up, the SB Nation mixed martial arts (MMA) rankings panel -- compiled by MMA Mania, MMA Fighting and Bloody Elbow -- recently reshuffled its list of top 155-pound MMA fighters for UFC and beyond.

Here's what they came up with.

1. Anthony Pettis
2. Ben Henderson
3. Gilbert Melendez
4. T.J. Grant
5. Josh Thomson
6. Michael Chandler
7. Gray Maynard
8. Rafael dos Anjos
9. Pat Healy
10. Nate Diaz

Expect this line up to change sooner rather than later, as "Bam Bam" takes on Khabib Nurmagomedov at the UFC 165 PPV event later this month in Toronto. In addition, "El Nino" goes to war against Diego Sanchez on Oct. 19 at UFC 166 in Houston.
