When Ronaldo Souza pasted Yushin Okami in the co-main event of last night's (Wed., Sept. 4, 2013) UFC Fight Night 28: "Teixeira vs. Bader" event from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on Fox Sports 1 (watch video highlights here), it opened the door for him to call for a Middleweight title shot, which is exactly what he did.
If he were to receive one, unlikely as that may be at this point, that could mean a fight against his friend and training partner Anderson Silva.
In the past, "Jacare" has resisted when approached about the idea of a bout against his fellow countryman, but at the post-fight press conference last night, he was singing a different tune.
"That's not up to me. I train with Anderson Silva. We help each other. I'm a UFC fighter, but I hope they never match us to fight. However, I'm ready to fight anyone in the world at 185 or 205."
Gold sure does change things, doesn't it?
Then again, this goes right back to the fact that, well, a job is a job, and his job is to fight and defeat whomever is put in front of him. Last night, that was Okami and sometime next year, that could be "The Spider."
That is, of course, if Silva can get past Chris Weidman in their rematch at UFC 168 later this, as well as whether or not there is enough support for a Souza title shot.
So ... is there?
