Consider that Swedish bullet dodged.
It's time again for the great pound-for-pound mixed martial arts (MMA) rankings debate, which is perhaps the most divisive because there is no way to truly validate them unless "super" fights are booked between stars who can compete above or below their respective weight classes.
And that doesn't happen very often.
Therefore, we're forced to imagine and pretend what would happen if the best in the sport were all the same size, which is a rather perplexing exercise, but one that is fun regardless. With several events in the books since the last pound-for-pound installment, the list has been reshuffled.
And one man stands alone at the top.
Jon Jones is king of the cage after turning away Alexander Gustafsson at the UFC 165 event last weekend (Sept. 21, 2013) in Toronto. The man he unseated, Anderson Silva, has tumbled to the fourth spot after getting waxed by Chris Weidman back in July.
With "The Spider" crawling to the middle of the pack, Georges St. Pierre jumps up to number two.
But that's not all. The SB Nation panel -- compiled by MMA Mania, MMA Fighting and Bloody Elbow -- recently sifted through the Top 10 pound-for-pound fighters for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and beyond.
Here's what happened:
1. Jon Jones
2. Georges St. Pierre
3. Jose Aldo
4. Anderson Silva
5. Cain Velasquez
6. Chris Weidman
7. Renan Barao
8. Demetrious Johnson
9. Anthony Pettis
10. Dominick Cruz

Weidman likely overtook Barao on the strength of his Silva knockout, while Velasquez enjoys prime real estate, despite having a first-round finish against Junior dos Santos back in 2011.
