Nate Diaz 'can't make' TUF 18 Finale rematch with Gray Maynard because of high school reunion

Nate Diaz: Lodi, California > Las Vegas, Nevada

USA TODAY Sports

F**K THAT!

Nate Diaz isn't really all that impressed with his latest mixed martial arts (MMA) match up, a rematch with fellow The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 alum, Gray Maynard, which is scheduled to take place at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Nov. 30, 2013.

First, Diaz reacted that he was going to fight Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis instead (more details here), not really a possibility for a fighter in the midst of a two-fight losing skid and coming off a suspension for being insensitive on his personal Twitter.com account.

Today, he piled on, claiming that his Tokay High School in Lodi, Calif., has scheduled his class reunion for the same TUF 18 Finale date.

His announcement:

It's unclear how serious Diaz is about the schedule conflict, passing up a decent payday and falling farther out of favor with the world's leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion to reunite with distant acquaintances he hasn't seen in a decade seems like a stretch.

Then again, perhaps these types of once-in-a-lifetime events are more meaningful to Diaz than money and employment.

Time will tell.

In the meantime, TUF 18 Finale will feature another "rematch" in the Flyweight main event when Demetrious Johnson defends his 125-pound title against familiar foe Joseph Benavidez, while the male and female finalists on the current season of the promotion's "reality" television series will hook 'em up for "six-figure" contracts.
