Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back with another midweek melee as the world's largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion brings you UFC Fight Night 28, which airs TONIGHT (Sept. 4, 2013) on FOX Sports 1 from the Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

205 lbs.: Glover Teixeira vs. Ryan Bader
Round one: Bader immediately shoots in for a takedown but can't secure it. He lands a left hand and hunts for a guillotine choke but again can't pull it off. Now Teixeira shoots in and takes him down briefly but Bader pops to his feet and they're clinching along the fence. Bader works some clinch strikes but they separate and Teixeira wings a heavy kick but it's checked. Good left jab from Bader and Bader catches Teixeira with a short punch. Teixeira is wobbled and he opens up but Teixeira flattens him with a huge combination during a wild exchange! Bader goes down and Teixiera finishes him off with big punches on the canvas as the referee steps in and puts a stop to it. Nice!
Final Result: Glover Teixeira defeats Ryan Bader via TKO (punches) at 2:55 of round one
185 lbs.: Yushin Okami vs. Ronaldo Souza
Round one: Jacare opens with a heavy leg kick followed by a body kick. They clinch briefly but Jacare blasts Okami with a huge right hand. Okami gets stagged and Jacare blasts Okami with a series of big left hands along the fence. Okami seems to be back, but Jacare definitely has control early. Jacare steps forward with a big right hand and Okami fires back with a 1-2 combination. HUGE right hand from Jacare and Okami drops! Jacare pounce with big right hands on the ground and the ref puts a stop to it. Daaaaamn!
Final Result: Jacare Souza defeats Yushin Okami via TKO (punches) at 2:47 of round one
125 lbs.: Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier Formiga
Round one: Benavidez has control of the center and he's putting pressure on Formiga on the feet, but nothing solid has landed after the first minute. Benavidez steps forward with a clubbing right hand but it's blocked and Formiga fires back with a left. Good left from Formiga again and Benavidez scores with a left kick. Benavidez wings a left hook and both men trade but nothing lands cleanly. Big combination from Benavidez and Formiga is hurt in a big way! Formiga goes down after a knee to the body and a looping right hand and he pounces with huge ground and pound, blasting away on the turtling Brazilian until the ref puts a stop to it. Very impressive!
Final Result: Joseph Benavidez defeats Jussier Formiga via TKO (punches) at 3:07 of round one
155 lbs.: Piotr Hallman vs. Francisco Trinaldo
Round one: Hallman steps forward with a right hand and he's the aggressor early. Trinaldo throws a big hook to the body and Hallman backs him off with a combination. Heavy left hand from Trinaldo comes up just short and he connects with a left. Trinaldo is going to put a hurting on Hallman if that left hand lands clean. Big body kick from Trinaldo hurts Hallman and he throws a heavy left hand. Huge body kick from Trinaldo drops Hallman but he can't finish him yet. Hallman gets back to his feet and Trinaldo goes right after him with more body kicks and punches. Trinaldo initiates a clinch but backs off and scores a leg kick. Hallman returns fire with a knee but Trinaldo goes back to the well with the body punch. Heavy body punch from Trinaldo but Hallman is fully back now and he's throwing a decent volume of strikes. Big body kick from Trinaldo and Hallman throws some nice punches as he wades in. Trinaldo shoots in and takes Hallman down with 30 seconds left. Hallman escapes back to his feet and they clinch. 10-9 Trinaldo
Round two: Trinaldo goes upstairs with a head kick but Hallman catches it and takes him down. Hallman postures up with a few left hands but Trinaldo stays tight on him from bottom and he's looking for a sweep. Trinaldo goes for a takedown and briefly gets it but they both pop to their feet. Hallman slips throwing a head kick and Trinaldo dives on him, looking for a kneebar but Hallman escapes and scrambles to his feet. Trinaldo is now hunting for a takedown along the fence and he briefly gets it but Hallman again returns to his feet. Hallman throws some elbows with his back against the fence and he stuffs a takedown, winding up on top. Trinaldo looks tired and he's stuck on his back right now. Big elbows from Hallman but he gets warned about them being 12-6. Hallman latches onto a Kimura and he tightens the hold. He's torquing on Trinaldo's arm and he taps! Wow what a comeback by Hallman after such a rough first round!
Final Result: Piotr Hallman defeats Francisco Trinaldo via submission (Kimura) at 3:50 of round two
185 lbs.: Rafael Natal vs. Tor Troeng
Round one: Natal opens with a leg kick and Troeng backs him off with a front kick. Another leg kick from Natal and another. Nice overhand right from Natal lands just above Troeng's ear and he drops! Natal dives on top of him and passes quickly to half guard. Natal is thinking about a guillotine from half guard but Troeng sweeps him and takes top position, standing over Natal. Nice left hand from Troeng as he drops down onto him. Troeng is in side control but Natal utilizes a beautiful sweep to land on top in half guard. Troeng tries to sweep him back but Natal is firmly in side control. Troeng rolls and winds up on top again, dropping a couple short elbows until the round ends. 10-9 Natal
Round two: Natal opens up and lands a HUGE right hand that practically puts Troeng out on his feet. He crashes to the ground and wakes up when he hits the canvas. Natal pounces and pounds away with punches but somehow Troeng survives. Natal is hunting for a choke but not only is Troeng defending himself but he sweeps and gets back to his feet. Wow! Natal shrugs off a clinch and Troeng falls backwards to the ground. Natal hops on top and works for some ground and pound but Troeng again works back to his feet. Troeng hunts for a Kimura while they're clinching but Natal lands a knee to the body and escapes the hold. Now Natal is hunting for a takedown along the fence. He has a leg but can't secure it and now Troeng works for a takedown but Natal reverses him and rolls on top briefly before they get back to their feet. 10-9 Natal
Round three: Troeng stalks forward aggressively and he shoots in for a takedown. Natal grabs a guillotine choke and jumps on it trying put Troeng away but he can't finish the hold. Troeng is now in top position, throwing some soft left hands to the body and Natal finally gives up on the hold. Troeng postures up and drops some punches but Natal reverses him and takes top position, landing in half guard after a sweep. Natal has a head lock and is attempting to pass to mount but can't quite get there, nearly getting swept again. Troeng turtles and Natal takes his back, getting both hooks in. Natal has 30 seconds to work and he drops some right hands as Troeng tries to fend him off. Natal stays on top until time expires. 10-9 Natal

125 lbs.: Ali Bagautinov vs. Marcos Vinicius
Round one: Bagautinov grabs control of the cage center early but neither man is engaging. Vinicius throws a front kick but Bagautinov wades forward with a big flurry, finishing it off with a clinch. Big combination from Bagautinov and Vinicius is hurt! Bagautinov swarms him and drops some heavy punches. Vinicious is still in trouble but Bagautinov attempts a guillotine. Vinivious pops out of it and they scramble with Vinicius taking Bagautinov's back. Vinicius is a bit too high up on Bagautinov to grab a choke, especially with his size advantage. Vinicius drops a few hammer fists but can't get anything going despite his position. Vinicius works for an armbar but Bagautinov slips free and Vinicius takes him down at the end of the round. Vinicius made things interesting with his grappling. 10-9 Bagautinov
Round two: Leg kick from Vinicius to get things started and he avoids a heavy right hand. Bagautinov puts pressure on Vinicius, throwing punches and kicks in combination. He catches a leg kick and takes Vinicius down but I'm not sure that's a great idea. Vinicius tries to sweep him and pops back to his feet throwing knees to the body but Bagautinov takes him down again, landing inside his closed guard. Vinicius throws his leg up trying to get an omaplata but can't lock it in. Vinicius throws elbows from his back and Bagautinov backs off, allowing him back to his feet. Good leg kick from Vinicius and Bagautinov pops him with a 1-2 combination. Bagautinov wades forward but comes up short with a pair of punches. Bagautinov shoots in and scores a takedown at the end of the round. 10-9 Bagautinov
Round three: Neither man goes for much in the opening minute and Vinicius throws a couple lazy leg kicks. Both men are really cautious here early on. Bagautinov catches a leg kick and initiates a clinch, pushing Vinicius into the fence and looking for a takedown. Vinicius grabs an underhook to prevent the takedown the the ref separates them with two minutes left in the fight. Leg kick from Vinicus and Bagautinov LEVELS him with a 1-2 combination. Vinicius drops and Bagautinov finishes him off with some heavy right hands on the canvas to score a stoppage victory. Very impressive!

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 28 PLAY-BY-PLAY UNDER CARD "PRELIMS" COMMENTARY (FOX SPORTS 1):
145 lbs.: Felipe Arantes vs. Edimilson Souza
Round one: Souza lands a lead left jab and he's significantly bigger than Arantes in the cage. Arantes can't afford to stand with him. Souza's hands are very low, practically beckoning Arantes to throw strikes. Arantes wings a left hook but Souza fires back with a counter right. Stiff left jab from Souza and Arantes responds with a spinning back kick that's blocked. Combination from Souza and he's starting to open up on the feet now. Nice right hands to the body from Souza and Arantes has nothing for him on the feet. I can't believe he hasn't tried to take this fight to the ground yet. Now Arantes shoots in and puts Souza on his back, landing inside Souza's closed guard. Arantes throws short left hands and now some right hands. Arantes stands and drops down with a big right hand. He passes Souza's guard and looks for a guillotine choke, dropping heavy elbows and he's in control, passing to mount in the final 10 seconds of the round. 10-9 Arantes
Round two: High kick from Arantes to get things started and he backs Souza up with a snapping push kick. Leg kick from Arantes and he whiffs with a head kick. Good leg kick from Arantes and Souza steps forward with a nice right hand. Arantes connects with a short left and he's holding his own on the feet now that Souza is respecting his ground game. Arantes shoots in for a takedown, pressing Souza against the fence but Souza fends him off for now, dropping elbows. Arantes tries to drag him off the fence but can't get him and tries to transition to a double leg but Souza sprawls well. Souza has an underhook and they trade knees on the inside before Arantes backs off. Aramtes drops his hands and backs up into the fence, perhaps hoping Souza drops his guard and opens up a takedown opportunity but Souza doesn't take the bait. Arantes brings his hands back up and they trade strikes but Souza gets the better end of it. 10-9 Souza
Round three: Both men looking for openings but neither takes advantage. Souza wings an overhand right but it doesn't connect solidly. Good jabs from Souza and Arantes tries to fire back with big hooks but he's just not in the same class as Souza on the feet. Nice right hand from Souza and Arantes is stunned. Souza opens up and Arantes covers up along the fence, eating a big flurry of strikes. Arantes shoots in for a desperation takedown and he gets it, putting Souza on his back near the fence. Arantes postures up and drops a few right hands but Souza is about to cage walk to his feet. Souza is upright but Arantes has a reverse body lock. Souza turns into him and now they're in regular clinch position with Souza's back against the fence. The ref separates them and Souza still looks fresh with 90 seconds left. Good jabs from Souza and Arantes' strikes come up short. Arantes dives in for a takedown and he actually gets Souza down. Arantes stays on top dropping a few right hands and throwing knees to the body until time expires. 10-9 Souza
Final Result: Kevin Souza defeats Felipe Arantes via split decision (29-28x2, 28-29)
135 lbs.: Ramiro Hernandez vs. Lucas Martins
Round one: Both men come out swinging and Hernandez throws some heavy punches but Martins blasts him with a head kick and then a beautiful 1-2 combination, dropping Hernandez with a right hand. Martins works some punches on the ground but changes it up and latches on a rear naked choke. Hernandez struggles for a bit, trying to throw punches backwards but Martins squeezes the hold and chokes him until he's unconscious. Great performance by Martins!
Final Result: Lucas Martins defeats Ramiro Hernandez via technical submission (rear naked choke) at 1:10 of round one
170 lbs.: Elias Silverio vs. Joao Zeferino
Round one: Both men come out fired up and Zeferino shoots in looking for a takedown. Silverio avoids it early, sprawling against the fence as Zeferino is expending a large amount of energy. The ref separates them and Silverio wings several kicks but Zeferino responds with some punches and goes right back to clinching along the fence. Zeferino finally hits a takedown but Silverio pops back to his feet again. Now Zeferino pulls guard and Silverio lands on top inside his guard. If Silverio can do anything with this he'll win the round. Silverio backs off and beckons Zeferino to stand. Zeferino lands a punch and a kick while backing up and Silverio lands nothing. Big head kick from Zeferino at the end of the round. 10-9 Zeferino
Round two: Zeferino shoots in for a takedown and he's hunched over on Silverio's leg. Silverio drops a series of elbows while sprawling against the fence and the ref separates them. Silverio throws a front kick but Zeferino counters with more punches. Big kick from Silverio and a heavy right hand rocks Zeferino. Zeferino tries to regain his senses by shooting in for a takedown but instead is forced to his back. They get back to their feet and Silverio again lands some heavy strikes but Zeferino shoots in and finally scores a takedown but Silverio finds some space and pops right back to his feet. Zeferino is back to hunching over stalling against Silverio along the fence and nothing is happening. 10-9 Silverio
Round three: They trade kicks and Silverio lands a big knee on the inside. Zeferino shoots in for a takedown but gets stuffed and Silverio drops some hammer fists. Zeferino spins around and throws an illegal kick to a grounded Silverio. They reset on the feet and Silverio lands some nice punches on the inside. Zeferino tries to throw Silverio but again winds up on his back and Silverio postures up throwing some punches before backing off and kicking at his legs. The ref allows Zeferino to stand and Silverio steps forward, pushing him into the fence. They attempt to take each other down but Silverio winds up on his back briefly, but he pops back up and takes Zeferino down this time, landing in his half guard. Silverio drops some nice right hands and Zeferino turtles. He's doing nothing but covering up and finally Zeferino rolls into guard which forces Silverio to back off. Silverio steps forward with a short combination and they clinch. Zeferino tries to take him down at the end of the round but again is stuffed. 10-9 Silverio
Final Result: Elias Silverio defeats Joao Zeferino via unanimous decision (30-27x2, 29-28)
155 lbs.: Ivan Jorge vs. Keith Wisniewski
Round one: Jorge comes out swinging and Wisniewski sprawls to avoid a takedown attempt as they reset. Jorge ducks down and shoots in but just barely manages to avoid a knee to the face. Jorge hunches forward grabbing a single leg but gives up on it. Nice left hand from Wisniewski and Jorge is having some trouble dealing with his size. Right hand to the body from Jorge and Wisniewski responds with a knee up the middle. Jorge shoots in again and presses Wisniewski into the fence but can't make anything happen. Good knee from Wisniewski and Jorge responds with a pair of leg kicks. They trade punches and Wisniewski lands a pair of knees up the middle, forcing Jorge to press him into the fence looking for a takedown. Jorge continues to pursue the takedown but Wisniewski defends it well. Big knee from Wisniewski and he fires off a short combination. Jorge steps forward with a big left hand and a leg kick but Wisniewski scores with an elbow on the inside. 10-9 Wisnewski
Round two: Strong combination to get things started from Jorge and he changes levels looking for a takedown but WIsniewski defends once again. Big elbow from Wisniewski and Jorge takes him down briefly but he pops right back to his feet. Jorge has a reverse body lock and he thinks about taking Wisniewski's back standing but they're stalling against the fence for over a minute. The ref separates them at the midway point of the round and Wisniewski lands a big left hand and fires off some heavy knees. Good right hand from Wisniewski and Jorge looks a bit dazed. Now Wisniewski grabs a clinch and scores with knees up the middle. Jorge again pursues the takedown along the fence and he turns the corner, taking him down but Wisniewski pops back to his feet. They clinch until a ref separation and Wisniewski starts landing big shots. Jorge is completely exhausted and he eats some right hands and knees until the bell. 10-9 Wisniewski
Round three: Wisniewski steps forward aggressively but Jorge scores with an outside leg kick. They clinch in the cage center and Jorge scores with some knees on the inside but Wisniewski fires off some punches. They separate and Wisniewski scores with a right hand, but eats another leg kick. The leg kick has been Jorge's best strike all night. They clinch again and Jorge scores with knees up the middle. Jorge presses Wisniewski into the fence and again connects with some knees. He's actually getting the better of Wisniewski here despite his exhaustion. Perhaps he found a second wind. A knee lands low but the ref didn't see it and Jorge opens up, landing punches and knees with Wisniewski pressed into the fence. Nice knee and left hands from Jorge. I'm shocked at Wisniewski getting completely outworked in this round, but Jorge has been in complete control.
Final Result: Ivan Jorge defeats Kieth Wisniewski via unanimous decision (29-28x2, 30-27)
UFC FIGHT NIGHT 28 PLAY-BY-PLAY UNDER CARD "PRELIMS" COMMENTARY (FACEBOOK.COM):
170 lbs.: Sean Spencer vs. Yuri Villefort
Round one: Villefort leaps forward with a knee but Spencer easily avoids it. Heavy knee from Villefort and an outside leg kick connects solidly. Another big knee from Villefort but Spencer responds with some heavy punches and a nice left hand. Villefort wades forward with some straight punches and Spencer continues to circle on the outside. Heavy leg kick from Villefort but Spencer responds with a right hand. Villefort scores with a big knee up the middle and they reset. Villefort shoots in and presses Spencer into the fence looking for a takedown but gives up on it quickly. Outside leg kick again lands for Villefort and he goes to the body with a solid kick as well. Heavy right hand scores for Spencer but Villefort absorbs it well and fires back with a big body kick and leg kick. Villefort shoots in and takes Spencer down but Spencer pops right back to his feet and circles away. Nasty leg kick from Villefort and that's the last strike to connect before the round finishes. 10-9 Villefort
Round two: Villefort immediately shoots in and takes Spencer down, landing inside his full guard. Spencer scoots back towards the fence and cage-walks to his feet. Spencer stalks forward looking to land punches but Villefort is keeping him at bay with leg and body kicks. Snapping front kick from Villefort but Spencer fires back with a low kick and some punches. Villefort shoots in for a takedown, looks like he has him but gives up on it. Leg kick from Villefort and Spencer counters with a right hook. Good right hand from Spencer and Villefort responds with a pair of heavy leg kicks. Another kick from Villefort but Spencer is still moving reasonably well. Villefort continues to score with leg kicks until the end of the round, even sweeping Spencer's leg in the final minute. 10-9 Villefort
Round three: Villefort looks like he's lost a step at the beginning of the round, whiffing on punches but he connects solidly with a leg kick. Spencer needs to make something happen with his boxing but Villefort lands a pair of low kicks again. Back elbow attempt from Villefort but Spencer dodges it and connects with a body kick and some punches. Villefort's hands are starting to drop a bit and Spencer ducks a hook, landing a counter in response. Spencer steps forward with a right hand and it lands flush. Villefort shoots in for a takedown but gives up on it when Spencer gets to the cage. Leg kick from Villefort but Spencer steps into it with a combination. Villefort changes levels looking for a single leg takedown but Spencer avoids it. Nice right hand from Spencer. Both men start to open up in the final minute but Spencer is clearly getting the better fo the exchanges. Villefort is exhausted and just trying to throw but Spencer lands the better strikes. 10-9 Spencer
