Demetrious Johnson will defend his 125-pound belt for the third time when he collides with Joseph Benavidez in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 Finale, which will take place from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Nov. 30, 2013.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) confirmed the Flyweight rematch on its official website after it was was announced on "UFC Tonight" on FOX Sports 1, the network that will televise the mixed martial arts (MMA) event on fight night.
Johnson and Benavidez first battled at UFC 152 in Sept. 2012, with "Mighty Mouse" earning a split decision win after five rounds of spirited action to become the promotion's first-ever Flyweight champion.
The close outcome was considered a big upset because Johnson controversially advanced to the final round of the divisional "tournament" after barely escaping Ian McCall twice (majority draw, unanimous decision). Benavidez, meanwhile, blew the doors off Yasuhiro Urushitani, and was widely-considered the champion in-waiting.
Johnson, however, flipped the script.
Since their initial encounter, Johnson has gone on to decision John Dodson at UFC on Fox 6 and submit John Moraga at UFC on Fox 8, while Benavidez took a decision over McCall and then finished Darren Uyenoyama and Jussier Formiga at UFC on Fox 7 and UFC Fight Night 28, respectively.
Both standouts have -- for all intents and purposes -- remained in the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked positions since their scrap last year.
TUF 18 Finale will feature another "rematch" in the Lightweight co-main event when Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard run back their TUF 5 match, while the male and female finalists on the current season of the promotion's "reality" television series will hook 'em up for "six-figure" contracts.
