Ian McCall vs Scott Jorgensen Flyweight fight set for UFC on FOX 9 in Sacramento

The next installment of UFC on FOX is filling up fast and furious, with a high-octane Flyweight bout between Ian McCall and Scott Jorgensen scheduled to take place at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., later this year.

Ian McCall will introduce former No. 1 Bantamweight title contender, Scott Jorgensen, to the Flyweight division in a 125-pound bout scheduled for UFC on Fox 9, which is set for Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., on Dec. 14, 2013.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) shared the good news on its official Twitter.com account earlier this evening (Tues., Sept. 17, 2013).

McCall is looking to build off his first-ever win inside the Octagon, a unanimous decision over unheralded Iliarde Santos at UFC 163 just last month (Aug. 3, 2013) in Brazil. "Uncle Creepy" had his back against the wall, going winless (0-2-1) since his promotional debut against Demetrious Johnson (draw) at UFC on FX 3 back in June 2012.

Indeed, he even remarked that if he couldn't topple the Brazilian, he probably didn't belong in the world's leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion. It was actually a close match, but he pulled through in the end despite a broken hand (see pic here).

Jorgensen, meanwhile, has struggled since his transition from World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) in Dec. 2010. Despite his even (3-3) record inside the Octagon, "Young Guns" has faced the stiffest competition possible at 135 pounds, losing to current interim champion Renan Barao and the two top-ranked fighters in the division, Eddie Wineland and Urijah Faber.

Perhaps it's those defeats to the cream of the weight class crop that compelled him to cut 10 pounds and test the 125-pound pond.

Exciting match up nevertheless.

UFC on FOX 9 will feature a Lightweight championship title fight between newly-crowned 155-pound kingpin Anthony Pettis against former Strikeforce strap-hanger Josh Thomson. In addition, the aforementioned Faber will throw hands opposite fellow bantamweight bad ass Michael McDonald.
