The Pentagon may not have women on the front lines until 2016, but Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will drop them into combat as early as November.
Added to the promotion's upcoming UFC Fight Night 31 event on FOX Sports 1 is a bantamweight pairing featuring Amanda Nunes vs. Germaine de Randamie, who will "Fight for the Troops" on Nov. 6, 2013 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Nunes (8-3) made her successful Octagon debut as part of the UFC 163 pay-per-view (PPV) event last month in Brazil, pounding out Sheila Gaff to notch her seventh victory by way of knockout or technical knockout. "Lioness" cut her teeth on the regional circuit as part of the Strikeforce and Invicta FC promotions.
That should make her opponent a familiar face.
After going 2-1 under Scott Coker and Co., De Randamie (4-2) jumped into deep water against Julie Kedzie at UFC on FOX 8 earlier this year in Seattle. "The Iron Lady" didn't look too rusty in "Emerald City" and managed to put out the "Fireball" by way of split decision.
Can she make it two-for-two?
UFC Fight Night 31: "Fight for the Troops 3" will be headlined by a middleweight match-up pitting Army Ranger Tim Kennedy against Brazilian interloper Lyoto Machida. Elsewhere on the card, resident "Lizbo," Liz Carmouche, will try to win her second straight at the expense of Alexis Davis.
