A featherweight bout has been agreed to and it's almost guaranteed fireworks.
Having recently cut down to 145 pounds for his last fight against Esteban Payan, long-time veteran Jeremy Stephens will square off with The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil winner Rony Jason at UFC Fight Night 29 this fall (Oct. 9, 2013) in Barueri, Brazil.
The bout was originally announced by MMAWeekly.com, who revealed that verbal agreements are in place for the intriguing fight.
Stephens (21-9) bounced back from three straight losses to top opposition after cutting down to the featherweight division. "Lil' Heathen" won his 145-pound debut by defeating Estevan Payan in a very bloody unanimous decision at UFC 160 in May, his 16th fight with the promotion.
Stephens has been unable to put together a big string of wins in UFC, but at just 27 years old, he's hoping this drop down to a new weight class will put him on the right path.
Jason (13-3) was a heavy favorite to win TUF Brazil and he not only lived up to expectations when he beat Godofredo Pepey at UFC 147 last year to win the featherweight portion of the show, he also exceeded them by dominating his opposition since, scoring consecutive stoppage victories over both Sam Sicilia and Mike Wilkinson while fighting in his native Brazil.
