UFC 163: "Aldo vs. Korean Zombie" from HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is officially in the books after a solid evening (Sat., Aug. 3, 2013) of mixed martial arts (MMA) action.
The main event of the evening, Jose Aldo vs. Chan Sung Jung, was a world title match that pit the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight Champion against top-ranked 145-pound contender. "Korean Zombie" delivered a spirited performance, pushing the pace and taking the fight to "Scarface."
Aldo, however, was just too talented and Jung was just too unlucky -- Aldo managed to adapt to the style of the aggressive South Korean, who suffered a freak shoulder separation in round four that lead to a technical knockout finish.
In other main card action, Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis collided in what was billed as a possible No. 1 Light Heavyweight contender eliminator match; however, the controversial decision (full fight recap here) in favor of "Mr. Wonderful" more than likely won't get him close to a 205-pound title shot anytime soon.
Indeed, Davis squeaked out a huge win much to the chagrin of "The Dragon" -- and even company president Dana White (see his reaction here) -- but he'll most likely need to knock off another contender or two to prove that he is indeed ready for a world title shot.
Anyway, as usual, all the stars of the show came to dish the dirt on the event immediately afterward at the post-fight press conference, including Aldo, "Korean Zombie," Davis and Machida, among others. Unnaturally, White -- who almost always emcees the post-fight event wrap up shows -- was not in attendance, replaced by Managing Director International Development Marshall Zelaznik.
Enjoy.
