It's hard to believe, almost, but it's almost been three years since World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) closed its doors with one of the greatest fights in the history of mixed martial arts (MMA). That may be high praise, perhaps higher than the bout deserves, but it gave birth to the famous "Showtime Off the Wall Kick".
You remember the one. Ben Henderson certainly does. In fact, it would surprise no one to believe that kick, delivered by freak athlete Anthony Pettis, still gives him nightmares.
That was then, though. This is now, and "Bendo" is the champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) shark infested 155-pound division. Pettis has been chasing a shot at the very title the "Smooth" one has around his waist since he beat Henderson that night back in 2010 in Phoenix.
Well, tonight (Sat., Aug. 31, 2013) at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he'll finally get his shot at it. And Henderson will finally get the chance to avenge his most embarrassing defeat.
Giggity giggity.
