Mike Tyson claims to have been lying about his sobriety

Mike Tyson's road to redemption has been focused on his sobriety. Unfortunately, he's been lying about it the whole time.

Mike Tyson has been trying to live a positive life since retiring from boxing. In the past few years, he's been the focus of several television shows, a guest on the Ultimate Fighter, and has his own one-man show on Broadway. A big reason of his turn around has been his apparent sobriety.

Yesterday, at a Friday Night Fights event which was his promotional debut, Tyson admitted he's been lying about his sobriety. Bad Left Hook has the full transcription of the quotes, which also includes Tyson meeting Teddy Atlas at the event. Tyson had asked for forgiveness from a previous encounter where Atlas pulled a gun on Tyson after an alleged sexual assault of Atlas' niece.

"I'm a motherfucker. I'm a bad guy sometimes. I did a lot of bad things, and I want to be forgiven. So in order for me to be forgiven, I hope they can forgive me. I wanna change my life, I wanna live a different life now. I wanna live my sober life. I don't wanna die. I'm on the verge of dying, because I'm a vicious alcoholic. Wow. God, this is some interesting stuff.

"I haven't drank or took drugs in six days, and for me that's a miracle. I've been lying to everybody else that think I was sober, but I'm not. This is my sixth day. I'm never gonna use again."

Hopefully for Tyson, he truly will stick with sobriety. He has a lot of personal demons and the only way he'll over come them is one day at a time.
