Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is growing exponentially, both stateside and abroad, and today (Aug. 20, 2013) announced an ambitious schedule of live mixed martial arts (MMA) events for its 2014 calendar year, including stops in England, Sweden, Poland, Ireland, Turkey, Scotland and Germany.
Executive Vice President and Managing Director of UFC Europe, Garry Cook, announced the locations as part of this morning's EA Gamescom presentation, where Cook was on hand to help reveal new footage of the EA SPORTS UFC video game, set for release in spring 2014.
See his video presentation here.
Ireland has been the talk of the town thanks to Irish import Conor McGregor, who has taken the UFC featherweight division by storm. In addition, the promotion is no stranger to England and Sweden, having held multiple events in both locations with hometown favorites Michael Bisping and Alexander Gustafsson, respectively.
Poland (home to these guys) and Turkey?
That -- along with Scotland -- should be interesting .. as will a return to Germany. Cook also helped orchestrate a new, three-year deal with upstart sports television provider BT Sport, which will include live, taped and originally-produced programming for the UK.
More on that here.
Having more international events is also a great way to expand the UFC roster, making more opportunities available for folks who would otherwise be unable to get to the states. And who knows what diamond in the rough is waiting for ZUFFA overseas.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more developments on the promotion's 2014 schedule as they become available.
