Think way back to UFC on Fox 2. After defeating Michael Bisping in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 2: 'Evans vs Davis' in Chicago, IL, Chael Sonnen stood in the middle of the Octagon and cut one of the smoothest and most epic promos of his MMA career.
Channelling 'Superstar' Billy Graham, Sonnen addressed Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) commentator Joe Rogan and for the next minute, reeled off from memory, one of the most famous promos in professional wrestling history.
It was a time when Sonnen was known for cutting an over-the-top promo. His approach to promoting fights was fresh and new, so MMA fans were immediately immediately drawn to what he was saying.
Our own Geno Mrosko called it a rip off.
It seems like the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Famer doesn't share the same sentiment. Graham took to his official Facebook page yesterday (August 9, 2013) to talk about Sonnen's promo.
"This is a clip of a young UFC fighter who uses my promos. Some of you folks may have seen it before but today was the first time for me. He does pretty good. Billy"
Graham is a former WWE champion and was known for having some of the best promos in the game. It's nice to see him not only recognize Sonnen's ability on the stick.
Sonnen makes his return to the Octagon on UFC on Fox Sports 1 against Mauricio Rua at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on August 17, 2013.
