UFC Quick Quote: Anderson Silva will finish the remaining nine fights on his contract

Anderson Silva's manager Ed Soares says that regardless of what happens in the rematch with Chris Weidman, "The Spider" is going to compete in all nine of the bouts left on his current UFC contract.

USA TODAY Sports

"Anderson Silva will fight out the nine fights on his contract. But his next fight will be against Chris Weidman."

- Ed Soares, manager to former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva, stated on Friday's (July 12, 2013) edition of AXS TV's "Inside MMA" that while a rematch with Chris Weidman is next on deck, "The Spider" plans to finish all nine of the remaining bouts on his freshly signed 10-fight contract. After months of speculation, Silva inked the new deal last April and his UFC 162 main event fight with Weidman was the first of the 10 fights on the contract. While it is very likely Silva will continue fighting if he recaptures the 185-pound belt from Weidman in their second meeting (which was recently confirmed for UFC 168 on Dec. 28, 2013), It will be interesting to see if the Brazilian sticks to his guns and continue to fight if he loses a second time.
