Marcos Maidana defended his WBA Welterweight boxing title last night (Sat., June 8, 2013) on Showtime, surviving an early Josesito Lopez onslaught to score a sixth round finish at The Home Depot Center in Carson City, California. Lopez turned up the heat in the third and fourth rounds, battering the Argentine brawler and apparently causing a hip injury that made him feel "paralyzed." Maidana gutted out the pain and eventually flipped the script, drilling Lopez with an overhand right in the sixth round, which he followed up shortly thereafter with a devastating uppercut along the ropes that visibly shook Lopez and forced a stoppage. Lopez argued that the match was stopped too soon, but he could not argue that Maidana mounted a sensational comeback, notching his third straight victory and possibly setting up a high-profile meeting with fellow countryman, Lucas Matthysse, in the near future.
