UFC on Fuel TV 10 results recap: Thiago Silva vs Rafael Cavalcante fight review and analysis

Two of the hardest hitting light heavyweights in the UFC waged war last night (June 8, 2013) as Thiago Silva battled former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Rafael Cavalcante on the UFC on FUEL TV 10 main card in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Both men were known for their vicious striking attacks, but Silva had the experience inside the Octagon as "Feijao" Cavalcante was making his UFC debut.

Early on, it was all Cavalcante as the Brazilian bomber pushed forward winging his right hand in all sorts of heavy strikes whether it was straight rights, right hooks, looping overhand rights or even occasional uppercuts.

The problem was, Silva was keeping a very high guard and defending nearly every blow, whether it was blocked or deflected. Almost nothing got through clean.

Silva didn't put up much offense at first, content to let "Feijao" fire away, perhaps hoping he would tire out.

And he did.

By the three minute mark, Cavalcante was already noticeably slower and his punches had significantly less zip on them. This was when Silva pounced, attacking with right hands trying to catch Feijao moving straight back, particularly when he left his head exposed while winging haymakers.

Eventually, Feijao backed straight into the fence and Silva seized the opportunity, pressing forward with a heavy combination that overwhelmed Cavalcante's defenses, eventually breaking through with some big shots up the middle that dropped the former Strikeforce champ.

All it took were a few parting shots on the canvas and Cavalcante was cooked.
