The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has added a touch of much-needed depth to the flyweight division with the signing of Russian-born fighter Ali Bagautinov.

Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting passed along news of the 125-pound signing on Wednesday (June 5, 2013), noting that the news was confirmed by a source close to the promotion.

Bagautinov (10-2) has competed entirely on the Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) scene since turning professional in 2009, racking up 10 victories with eight coming by way of (technical) knockout or submission.

Like most Russian fighters who cross over to MMA, Bagautinov has a background in Combat Sambo and actually earned a gold medal at the 2012 World Combat Sambo Championships.

The 27-year-old has yet to be finished in MMA competition and his striking skills are rapidly catching up to his grappling as he won his last two fights by (technical) knockout in a total of 52 seconds.

A date or potential opponent for Bagautinov's UFC debut has not been announced at this time.
