An unfortunate car accident involving Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight Ronny Markes has scrapped his fight against Derek Brunson from Saturday's (June 8, 2013) UFC on FUEL TV 10: "Nogueira vs. Werdum" fight card just over 24-hours before the event.
UFC President Dana White confirmed that the 185-pound match up has been pulled from the card to MMA Fighting and the event will go on with the 12 remaining scheduled bouts.
According to a message posted on Twitter by John Morgan of MMA Junkie, Markes is not severely injured; however, he was apparently knocked unconscious for a few seconds after hitting his head, which was enough to for medical staff to deem him unfit to compete.
See pictures of the wreck here.
Morgan was also able to confirm with White that both fighters will be paid their show money even though they will not compete at the event.
The Markes vs. Brunson match up was slated to take place on the preliminary portion of the UFC on FUEL TV 10 fight card, which streams worldwide on Facebook and YouTube.
