For just the eighth time in history, winners of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) reality show will square off as Court McGee and Robert Whittaker are set to collide at the second UFC on FOX Sports 1 event on Aug. 28, 2013 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
McGee won season 11 of the reality show by defeating Kris McCray in the finals while Whittaker was the inaugural victor of the "Australia vs. U.K." by taking out Brad Scott.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officials confirmed the welterweight match up via Twitter on Wednesday (June 5, 2013) evening.
McGee (15-3) makes his second appearance at 170-pounds since dropping to the weight class from middleweight earlier this year. In his first welterweight bout, the 28-year-old earned a unanimous decision victory over Josh Neer at UFC 157 to bring an end to a career-worst two-fight losing streak.
"Crusher" is 4-2 overall in his time with the UFC and has yet to be been finished in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career.
Whittaker (11-2) will compete in his second consecutive bout against a fellow TUF finalist after taking out season 16 winner Colton Smith with a third-round knockout at UFC 160 last month.
At just 22 years of age, the Australian is one of the more intriguing winners of the show from recent seasons and with 10 finishes in 11 victories is also an exciting fighter to watch compete inside the cage.
It is unknown at this time where McGee vs. Whittaker will be placed on the card.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 #2 goes down Aug. 28, 2013 from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. A welterweight rematch between Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann serves as the main event of the evening while lightweights Donald Cerrone and Rafael dos Anjos meet up in the co-headliner.
